The story of Pemba Magic Lodge began in 1998 as a small campsite for backpackers exploring northern Mozambique. Over the years, it has grown into a lodge with individually designed chalets, a well-known restaurant and bar, and a reputation for authentic hospitality. Built using local materials wherever possible and shaped by the relaxed spirit of Pemba.
Our Story
What started in 1998 as a simple campsite and dormitory for backpackers has grown into Pemba Magic Lodge, including our long-running restaurant and bar, still one of the best-known meeting spots in town. Like many hospitality businesses here, we went through difficult years during Covid and the regional security crisis. Today we're focused on rebuilding: refreshing the property, improving our facilities, and getting back to full strength while holding on to the genuine, laid-back hospitality that's always defined this place.

As Cabo Delgado's oil & gas sector ramps back up and northern Mozambique continues to develop, we're building Pemba Magic Lodge into a trusted base for the people doing that work - alongside the leisure travellers and NGO teams who've always been part of our story.
